Google’s Page Rank (PR) is one of the innovative ideas started by Google several years ago. It is one of the most important aspects included in being recognized as a good web page. The higher  your Google Page Rank, the greater the chances are of your website attracting quality traffic. Mainly, the concept was that if a web page gives a link to other web page then that link was calculated as a positive vote for the other web page. PR does not reflect on the quality of site, but it is the criteria which measure the value of a web page.

Google Page Rank uses incoming links to your web page to determine your web page’s importance and credibility. The number of incoming links is important, but is not the only factor. The site from which the link originates is also important. The more reputed the page is from which the link originates, the better the links are considered. Google Page Rank for a particular page is directly proportional to the number of links that point to it. However, each of these links do not carry the same weight. Some links are deemed more important because they originate on pages that are reputable and credible.

Google not only considers the PR of the originating page important, it also considers the number of links originating from that page as well. A link coming from a page with 10 other outgoing links  is given less weight than the link coming from a page with only 2 outgoing links. It is possible for a webpage with only one incoming link (called “backlink”) to have a higher Page Rank than a page with multiple backlinks, if that one link is originated from an “important” page with few links.

Simply, PR is calculated by distributing the PRs from all the back links to your page. Along with these page ranks, it also depends on the content of your page. Some people say that 85% of your PR is calculated on the basis of the content of your page and the rest is calculated by the links.

Nobody knows exactly how Google calculates PR and exactly what it takes to improve it. But what we do know is that quality link building along with quality content plays a significant role in achieving a high Google Page Rank.
